Non Football Thought:
I'm no fashionista, but did the skimpy/semi-translucent outfits of the United States give pause to anyone watching the gold medal match for Women's Beach Volleyball? The U.S. played China and won. Perhaps more importantly, U.S. players Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor spurred a national discussion of whether all women's beach volleyball matches should henceforth be played in a torrential downpour with 95 percent humidity.

I thought the rain simply added to the palpable drama of the moment. Nothing more, nothing less. As I heard on NPR yesterday, the bikinis are a utilitarian device designed to spare the players of sand gathering in inconvenient places. How dare you suggest that NBC would consider the display of human skin when making decisions about what to air on prime time. I am among the millions of Americans who tuned in because we appreciate the subtle competitive nuances of beach volleyball.
